Mountain Biking is a big part of the summer recreation around Whistler. There are trails for everyone from the raw beginner up to the extreme pros. There are basically 3 types of mountain biking to choose from: downhill, cross-country and valley trail cruising. These are are outlined below:

Downhill Mountain Bike Park:

Downhill mountain biking is the fastest growing sport in North America. This is a great way to get up the mountain without having to use your own pedal power. The idea is simple- you ride the chair up and ride your bike down! The Fitzimmons and Garbonzo chairs are both in operation along with the Whistler Gondola. New for this season they are allowing people to use the Whistler Gondola to access the Roundhouse and the sub-alpine without a guide. It is important to note that you don’t have to be king of the hill to ride in the Bike Park as the new dual suspension bikes are very forgiving and there are lots of beginner and intermediate trails as well. Throughout the summer there are many different mountain bike festivals where you can come and see the pros doing their thing. The Bike Park is scheduled to open on May 20, 2006 (snow conditions permitting) we will be open from 10am to 8pm, seven days a week. Come and ask Dylan to show you around, he is always looking for way to get out there during the day!

Mountain biking lift pass: Adult: $45; Youth: $39; Child: $23 or for the beginners the Magic chair is $10 for anyone to ride.

Cross Country Riding:

Whistler is home to literally hundreds of trails and we are still discovering them after 8 years. One of our recent guests commented "you can see trails literally everywhere you look". Cross country riding is for the people who want a chance to get a little exercise while getting away from it all. There are trails that go through old growth rainforests or right up to the bottom of a beautiful waterfall, and even one that goes through an abandoned ghost town. Cross country riders are often out there in the middle of the wilderness and it's a great way to experience true canadian outdoors. You don't have to go that far if you don't want to and there are trails to suit all ability levels.

Valley Trail Riding:

The whole valley of Whistler is connected by an extensive paved valley trail system. The trail is for non-motorized vehicles only so you can take your whole family out for bike ride without having to worry about cars. The trail connects the 4 different valley lakes as well as the many different parks in the valley. We have had guests come for a month in the summer and never tire of exploring the valley. There are also specially designed bikes with nice comfy seats making it even easier to cruise around the valley trail.
