BC is also home to the world's best catskiing and is a fantastic way to get into the pristine backcountry wilderness. We have had some of our best days ever while catskiing out of Whistler and highly recommend it for upper intermediate to advanced skiers and riders. Catskiing is just like heli-skiing except that instead of getting dropped off by a helicopter, you get dropped off by a snowcat. The packages are less expensive than heli-skiing as you don't have to pay for flight time and you can also avoid the problems with no-fly days as the catskiing company can operate in just about any weather. We recommend Powder Mountain Snowcats that operate out of the Tricouni area just south of the main Whistler resort. They have 4300 acres of terrain in their powder sanctuary (about half the size of Whistler/Blackcomb) including 5 alpine peaks (highest is 6500 feet). Imagine sharing all this pristine snow with a maximum of 36 skiers per day! For your safety, VIP only works with licensed cat-skiing operators.
Powder Mountain Catskiing:
They offer daily tours for up to 36 skiers/boarders in three separate cats. This ensures that you have plenty of room to explore the fresh lines. The package includes: professional cat-ski guide with each group, use of personal transceiver and powder ski tracers, a great breakfast and a hearty lunch and return ground transportation to Whistler. (Average 7,000-10,000 vertical feet per day) {$Cdn 499 per person per day} Group bookings are also possible. If you have 10-12 people you can get your own cat and then skiers of most ability levels can get out there. This is a great way for a group of friends to get re-acquainted or for a group to do some bonding together. We have had several companies do a catskiing day as part of their corporate retreat in the past and it has been well received. Contact us for more information.
